Dubai Stocks Surge 3.95% as Market Value Returns Above Dh1 Trillion

Dubai’s stock market delivered its strongest daily performance in nearly seven months on Wednesday, November 4, as broad-based buying lifted the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) General Index by almost 4% and pushed the exchange’s total market capitalisation above Dh1 trillion again.

The DFM General Index closed at 6,040.74 points, gaining 229.88 points, or 3.956%, during the session. The recovery followed a previous trading session in which the market’s capitalisation had fallen to Dh967.22 billion.

Trading activity also accelerated. According to the exchange’s official daily bulletin, investors traded approximately 370.65 million shares worth Dh2.10 billion through 28,474 transactions on Wednesday.

The gains were not limited to a handful of companies. Forty listed stocks advanced, while 11 declined and five finished unchanged, according to DFM trading data.

Banking, telecoms and property shares drive the rally

Several of Dubai’s major listed sectors contributed to the market’s recovery, with telecommunications recording particularly strong gains.

The telecommunications sector advanced 7.81%, while real estate shares climbed 4.2% and banking stocks gained 3.99%, according to market figures reported on Wednesday.

Among the prominent companies attracting attention were Emirates NBD, Emaar Properties, Emaar Development and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du).

Emirates NBD gained approximately 6.1%, while Emaar Properties advanced 4.4%. Emaar Development shares also rose around 4.9%.

These movements helped reinforce the broader market advance, particularly as investors increased their exposure to some of Dubai’s most actively traded companies.

Emaar’s proposed offer attracts investor attention

One corporate announcement that drew attention during the session involved Emaar Properties and its subsidiary, Emaar Development.

In a disclosure submitted to the Dubai Financial Market on November 4, Emaar Properties announced its intention to make a voluntary cash offer to acquire up to 100% of the issued and paid-up share capital of Emaar Development that it does not already own, directly or through its wholly owned subsidiary, Emirates Property Holdings.

The proposed offer price is Dh15 per share.

The announcement was subject to the required approval from Emaar Properties’ board of directors. It should therefore be understood as a proposed transaction rather than a completed acquisition.

The disclosure provided investors with an additional corporate development to assess while trading in both companies’ shares remained active.

Emaar Properties alone recorded trading value exceeding Dh1 billion on Wednesday, according to the DFM bulletin. This illustrates the considerable attention directed towards the property developer during the session.

International developments add to market sentiment

Dubai’s performance also came during a positive session for several Gulf stock markets.

Reuters reported that regional investors were assessing developments following the US midterm elections and the continuing Iran conflict. Progress in diplomatic mediation between Washington and Tehran, alongside expectations that military escalation could be avoided, helped support investor sentiment.

Dubai recorded the strongest gain among the major Gulf markets covered in the Reuters report.

Saudi Arabia’s benchmark index rose 1.7%, while Qatar’s market gained 2.8%. Abu Dhabi’s main index surrendered its earlier gains to finish broadly unchanged.

Regional markets were also supported by domestic economic conditions and the ongoing third-quarter corporate earnings season, according to market commentary reported by Reuters.

However, international developments remain an important source of uncertainty. Changes in geopolitical conditions, energy prices, interest-rate expectations and global investment flows can influence the direction of regional equities.

What the Dh1 trillion milestone means for Dubai’s market

Market capitalisation represents the combined market value of the listed companies on an exchange. It is calculated using share prices and the number of outstanding shares.

When the total rises, it indicates that the market value of listed companies has increased. However, it does not necessarily mean that companies have received an equivalent amount of new investment or cash.

Dubai’s return above Dh1 trillion is a notable market milestone, particularly after the exchange had slipped below that level in the preceding session.

The exchange’s trading figures also provide a useful indication of participation. Wednesday’s Dh2.10 billion in traded value was substantially higher than the approximately Dh905.70 million recorded on November 3.

The number of shares traded increased from around 184.15 million to 370.65 million over the same comparison.

These figures point to a sharp increase in trading activity alongside the rise in the index.

Dubai market continues higher on Thursday

The positive movement extended into Thursday’s trading session.

The Dubai Financial Market General Index was reported trading at 6,051.23 points, up 0.17%, in late-morning trading on November 5.

The continuation of gains provided an additional sign of improving sentiment following Wednesday’s strong performance. However, further trading sessions will be needed to establish whether the recovery can be sustained.

For investors following Dubai-listed companies, attention is likely to remain on corporate announcements, earnings, international developments and trading activity across the major sectors.

The return above Dh1 trillion marks a strong session for Dubai’s exchange. Whether the market can maintain that level will depend on how investors respond to the next set of economic and corporate developments.
