DUBAI: The UAE is set for another spell of intense heat on Wednesday, with temperatures forecast to climb as high as 47°C in some internal and western areas before a gradual change in conditions brings cooler temperatures from Sunday.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) expects Wednesday to remain generally fair to partly cloudy, with light to moderate winds that may become stronger at times. Temperatures in inland areas are forecast to range between 43°C and 47°C, while coastal areas and islands could see highs between 39°C and 44°C. Mountain areas are expected to be considerably cooler, with temperatures of 30°C to 36°C.
The highest temperatures are expected in areas away from the coast. The NCM forecast carried by WAM, for example, put Wednesday’s maximum at 47°C in Al Sila, while Abu Dhabi was forecast to reach 43°C and Dubai 41°C. Liwa was expected to reach 46°C.
Humidity and fog become more likely
The heat will not be the only weather factor for residents to watch.
Humidity is expected to increase overnight and during the early morning in some coastal areas from Thursday, creating conditions favourable for mist. By Friday night and Saturday morning, fog or mist could develop across some coastal and inland locations.
The combination of high daytime temperatures and rising humidity means conditions may feel particularly uncomfortable during the afternoon and early morning transition periods.
Winds are forecast to generally range between 10 and 25 km/h, occasionally reaching 35 km/h. Seas are expected to remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman during Wednesday.
