Dubai: Motorists travelling between Dubai and Sharjah are facing congestion on several major roads, with the main commuter corridors experiencing slower traffic during peak periods.
The Dubai-Sharjah connection is particularly sensitive to changes in traffic flow because large volumes of commuters use E11 and E311 to travel between residential areas in Sharjah and employment centres in Dubai.
Recent traffic updates have repeatedly identified Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) and Al Ittihad Road (E11) as key pressure points on the cross-emirate commute. A September 16 traffic update, for example, reported extensive congestion on both routes, particularly around the Dubai-Sharjah corridor, Deira and Al Mamzar.
E11 and E311 remain important commuter corridors

The continuing pressure on the Dubai-Sharjah road network comes as authorities work to increase capacity on major corridors.
RTA announced in August that two additional lanes would open on a 5-kilometre section of Emirates Road for traffic travelling from Sharjah towards Wadi Al Amardi. The project increased the road from six to eight lanes on the relevant section and raised stated capacity from 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour.
The authority said the improvement was designed to support smoother mobility between Dubai and the Northern Emirates and address longer-term traffic growth.
