Ramayana Box Office Day 1: Ranbir Kapoor and Yash Film Opens Big

Ramayana: Part One, the large-scale screen adaptation of the Hindu epic starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, opened in cinemas in India and the UAE on Thursday, November 5, with trade trackers reporting a strong first day ahead of the Diwali weekend.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film released in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam in India, and in English in some overseas markets, according to India TV.

How much did Ramayana earn on day 1?

Opening-day figures differ between trackers, and all are estimates at this stage.

Sacnilk estimated India net collections of about ₹64.85 crore across all languages, or about ₹77.50 crore gross including 3D charges, from around 25,200 shows. It estimated roughly 2.5 million tickets sold, with an average occupancy of 36 percent.

Bollywood Hungama’s early estimate put first-day business for the Hindi version alone at ₹50 crore to ₹51 crore. The outlet described this as the biggest pre-Diwali opening, ahead of the ₹44 crore that Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 earned on Diwali day.

Sacnilk’s language-wise estimates for India (net):

  • Hindi: ₹47.50 crore
  • Kannada: ₹7.25 crore
  • Telugu: ₹6.00 crore
  • Tamil: ₹2.60 crore
  • Malayalam: ₹1.50 crore

Kannada and Telugu shows recorded the highest occupancy, at around 60 percent each, according to Sacnilk. Overseas and worldwide figures had not been published by the trackers at the time of writing.

For comparison, FilmiBeat noted, citing Sacnilk, that Adipurush, an earlier film based on the same epic, opened with about ₹86.75 crore net. Ramayana’s first-day estimate is below that figure.

Strong advance sales before release

Ramayana arrived with heavy pre-release demand. Sacnilk reported that its opening-day advance sales were the second highest for a Bollywood film, behind only Dhurandhar 2.

Ahead of the release, the makers also secured a court order against piracy, as Al Gulf News reported in its story on the Bombay High Court’s protection for Ramayana.

On release day, the makers released a Shree Hanuman Chalisa track from the film, composed by AR Rahman and featuring five singers, Bollywood Hungama reported.

Cast and crew

Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita and Yash plays Ravana. Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana, with Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil and Kajal Aggarwal in supporting roles, according to India TV.

  • Director: Nitesh Tiwari
  • Producers: Namit Malhotra and Yash (Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations)
  • Music: Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman
  • Release date: November 5, 2026
