UAE-India flights: IndiGo raises fuel charge from October 6

Passengers travelling between the UAE and India on IndiGo are set to face a higher fuel component on newly booked tickets from October 6, as the Indian carrier responds to another rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs.

The revised charge applies to new domestic and international bookings made from 12.01am on October 6. For flights covering the GCC and wider Middle East, including UAE routes, the fuel charge is set at ₹5,500 per sector, or roughly Dh210.

That means a passenger booking a return UAE-India itinerary on IndiGo could see about Dh420 added to the fare through the fuel component alone, although the final ticket price will also depend on the base fare, taxes, demand and availability.

Why IndiGo is increasing the charge

IndiGo said the latest adjustment reflects sustained pressure from aviation fuel prices. ATF is one of the largest operating-cost components for airlines, making sharp movements in jet-fuel prices particularly significant for carriers operating international routes.

Reuters reported on October 5 that IndiGo had increased fuel charges across both domestic and international services. The international revisions range from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 depending on the market.

The move comes as the aviation industry continues to deal with the financial effects of the Iran conflict, including higher fuel costs, disrupted airspace and changes to flight operations across parts of the Middle East.

IATA’s latest fuel monitor showed the global average jet-fuel price rising 7.4 per cent week on week to $194.90 a barrel, underlining the continuing cost pressure facing airlines.

What UAE passengers will pay

For UAE and other GCC routes, the latest IndiGo fuel charge is a flat ₹5,500 per sector.

The new international fuel-charge structure reported for October 6 is:

  • SAARC routes up to 500km: ₹1,000
  • SAARC routes above 500km: ₹3,000
  • Southeast Asia, GCC and Middle East, North and East Asia: ₹5,500
  • Africa: ₹6,000
  • Europe: ₹10,000

The charge is applied to the ticket in addition to the applicable fare and government or airport taxes.

For UAE-India travellers, the change is particularly relevant because IndiGo operates a large network linking Indian cities with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other destinations in the Gulf.

Another increase this year

This is not the first time IndiGo has adjusted its fuel charge in 2026.

In April, the airline raised its international fuel charges after reporting that ATF prices had more than doubled over the preceding month. At that time, GCC and Middle East routes carried a charge of ₹3,000 for sectors up to 2,000km and ₹5,000 for longer sectors.

The new ₹5,500 charge therefore represents another increase for the UAE and wider GCC market.

The airline had also introduced a fuel charge in March as regional geopolitical tensions pushed jet-fuel prices sharply higher.

Will every UAE-India ticket become more expensive?

The fuel-charge increase does not mean every IndiGo ticket will rise by the same amount.

Airfares are made up of several components, and the final amount paid by a passenger can change according to travel dates, seat availability, demand, booking timing, taxes and other charges.

IndiGo’s own conditions of carriage state that fares can include the basic fare, taxes, airline charges such as fuel charges, optional services and airport-related fees. The airline also says fuel charges can vary according to the sector, booking date and actual travel date.

The new fuel charge therefore creates upward pressure on fares, but it should not be interpreted as a fixed percentage increase across all UAE-India tickets.

UAE-India fares remain sensitive to regional disruption

The latest increase comes after months of volatility in UAE-India air travel.

The Iran conflict has disrupted aviation across the region, with airlines facing route changes, airspace restrictions and higher operating costs. Reuters has reported that carriers have gradually restored services across the Middle East, although some routes have remained affected.

For UAE passengers, the combination of fuel costs and changing capacity can have a direct effect on ticket prices. When fewer seats are available while demand remains strong, fares can rise independently of the fuel surcharge.

That is particularly relevant during periods of heavy India-bound travel, including school holidays, festivals and other seasonal peaks.

What travellers should check before booking

Passengers planning an India trip from the UAE should compare the full ticket price rather than looking only at the advertised base fare.

It is also worth checking:

  • whether the quoted fare already includes the new fuel charge;
  • baggage allowances and additional baggage fees;
  • cancellation and change conditions;
  • direct versus connecting flight options;
  • alternative travel dates with lower demand.

Passengers who have already completed their bookings should not assume they will be asked to pay the new charge simply because the airline has revised its fuel component. IndiGo’s conditions state that once a fare has been purchased, it does not change after completion of the booking, subject to the airline’s stated terms and any subsequent voluntary change or rebooking.

For travellers booking from October 6 onwards, however, the revised fuel charge will form part of the applicable fare structure.

With jet-fuel prices still elevated and regional aviation conditions unsettled, further fare changes remain possible. IndiGo has said it will continue to monitor fuel prices and make adjustments when appropriate.

What is changing on IndiGo flights from October 6?
IndiGo is increasing its fuel charges on new domestic and international bookings from October 6, 2026. International increases vary by region.

How much is IndiGo’s new fuel charge for UAE flights?
The reported charge for GCC and Middle East routes, including UAE services, is ₹5,500 per sector, approximately Dh210.

Does the ₹5,500 charge apply to a return UAE-India ticket?
It is charged per sector, so a return itinerary with two eligible sectors could carry approximately ₹11,000 in fuel charges, subject to the booking structure.

Will all UAE-India airfares increase by the same amount?
No. The final fare also depends on the base fare, demand, availability, taxes and other applicable charges.

Why is IndiGo increasing its fuel charge?
The airline cited higher aviation turbine fuel costs and sustained operating-cost pressure.

Does the new charge apply to existing bookings?
The revised charge applies to new bookings made from October 6. IndiGo’s conditions state that a completed booking’s tariff does not normally change after purchase, subject to its terms.

Can IndiGo increase the fuel charge again?
The airline has said it will continue monitoring fuel prices and make further adjustments when appropriate.
