Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 crosses ₹424 crore worldwide in four days

The Tamil action sequel earned an estimated ₹55.85 crore net in India on Sunday, taking its domestic net total close to ₹200 crore.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has crossed the ₹400-crore mark at the worldwide box office after its first four days in cinemas, with the film’s reported gross earnings reaching ₹424.25 crore by Sunday, October 18.

The action sequel, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, earned an estimated ₹55.85 crore net in India on its fourth day, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk. Its cumulative domestic net collection stood at ₹199.90 crore, while the worldwide total included ₹234.25 crore in Indian gross revenue and ₹190 crore from overseas markets.

The figures, reported by Indian entertainment news outlets on Monday, October 19, are industry estimates and should not be confused with audited revenue figures.

Sunday collections lift Jailer 2’s opening-weekend total

The film’s daily performance showed renewed momentum over the weekend after a decline on Friday.

Jailer 2 opened on Thursday, October 15, with an estimated ₹59.70 crore in Indian net collections. Earnings fell to ₹37.10 crore on Friday before recovering to ₹47.25 crore on Saturday and ₹55.85 crore on Sunday.

Sunday’s collection was approximately 18.2% higher than Saturday’s, according to the reported figures.

The fourth-day result brought the film close to the ₹200-crore domestic net milestone. Its worldwide gross, meanwhile, had moved beyond ₹424 crore, reflecting contributions from cinemas in India and international markets.

Box-office net and gross figures measure different things. Net collections generally exclude applicable taxes, while gross collections include them. Worldwide gross also combines domestic and overseas earnings, so the totals should not be added together as separate revenue streams.

Tamil version leads the domestic box office

The Tamil-language version remained the film’s largest contributor to Indian collections on Sunday.

Sacnilk’s reported figures put Tamil net earnings at ₹39.95 crore for the day. The Telugu version collected an estimated ₹9.50 crore, while the Hindi version generated ₹5.75 crore. The Kannada version added approximately ₹65 lakh.

The distribution across languages shows the importance of the film’s core Tamil-speaking audience, alongside its reach into other Indian-language markets.

The Hindi-language performance also improved on Sunday, although it remained substantially below the Tamil version’s collection. Its reported fourth-day earnings were higher than Saturday’s ₹4.50 crore.

These figures reflect estimated theatrical collections rather than the amount ultimately retained by the producer. Theatre operators, distributors, taxes and other commercial arrangements affect how box-office revenue is divided.

Overseas markets contribute ₹190 crore

International audiences accounted for a substantial share of Jailer 2’s reported worldwide earnings.

The film collected an estimated ₹40 crore in overseas gross revenue on Sunday, bringing its cumulative overseas total to ₹190 crore. Combined with its Indian gross of ₹234.25 crore, that produced a reported worldwide gross of ₹424.25 crore after four days.

The overseas contribution is particularly relevant for a Tamil-language production starring Rajinikanth, whose films attract audiences outside India.

The UAE is among the international markets where the film has drawn attention. Gulf News reported fan celebrations during early-morning screenings in Dubai on the film’s October 15 release day. However, the available worldwide figures do not establish a separate UAE box-office total.

For UAE residents planning to watch the film, local showtimes and language options should be checked with cinema operators, as availability may differ by location.

Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian

Jailer 2 is the follow-up to the 2023 film Jailer, with Rajinikanth returning as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.

Nelson Dilipkumar directs the sequel, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music. The cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, S.J. Suryah and Yogi Babu, alongside special appearances by actors including Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff, according to published cast information.

The film’s first-weekend performance places it among the prominent theatrical releases being tracked by Indian entertainment outlets this month. Its next box-office results will show whether the opening-weekend momentum can be sustained through the working week.

For now, the reported ₹424.25-crore worldwide gross marks a strong start, while the near-₹200-crore domestic net figure gives the film another closely watched milestone as its theatrical run continues.
